Evelyn I. Harvey, 94, compassionate friend of children and servant of God, passed away peacefully in Hennis Care Center at Bolivar, Monday morning, January 20, 2014 surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Mineral City on April 6, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Robert G. and Ola Larena (Dieringer) Myers.
On November 7, 1936 in West Virginia, Evelyn married her lifelong companion and friend, William Henry “Bill” Harvey. In 1937, they moved to Bolivar where they raised their 6 children and resided throughout their lifetime together. Bill preceded her in passing on June 11, 1998.
Her lifetime was devoted to serving, praying for, and befriending children. Whether she made a warm blanket for a child, or was teaching them about her Lord and Savior at Sunday School or Bible School, she had a warm smile and loving heart for each child she was blessed to encounter. Her faith was nurtured through her devotion and love to her Lord.
Evelyn was honored to be an escort on the Queen’s Court at the Strawberry Festival in Bolivar. She also won the 1933 County Spelling Bee.
Evelyn will be deeply missed by her children Marlene (Doran) Gordon of Dover, Carol (Dave) Lear of North Canton, Kay (Bill) Huth of Bolivar, Paul (Marie) Harvey of Missouri, Dick (Linda) Harvey of Bolivar and her daughter-in-law, Virginia Harvey of the Philippines. Also surviving is her brother-in-law, Howard (Lucy) Johnson of Massillon; 17 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Ray Harvey on January 15, 2008; her brother, Russell Myers; and two sisters, Ellen Ewing and Ruby Johnson.
Visitation will be held in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover on Saturday, January 25 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Her son, Pastor Dick Harvey, will lead her funeral service beginning at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Fort Laurens Cemetery.

Evelyn’s family is forever grateful to the Hennis Care Center and Hattie House teams who provided loving and compassionate care to her and her family during her last days. The family is also grateful to everyone who prayed, loved, and cared for grandma.
