Evelyn Frances Ruefly, 84, of Dover, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008 in New Dawn Retirement Community at Dover.A daughter of the late Charles and Marie (Young) Strong, Evelyn was born April 24, 1923 at Canton, Ohio.She graduated from Canton McKinley High School in 1941. On May 16, 1943, Evelyn married Samuel Ruefly and together they reared three children, Linda, Nancy and John. Evelyn and Sam owned and operated the former S & E Union Truck Stop which was located on State Route 250 at Dennison. Sam also owned the Southside Union 76 station. The couple shared 30 years of marriage prior to Sam’s passing on January 10, 1974.Evelyn was a member of the First United Church of Christ at New Philadelphia and was once a clerk for the former Schwartz-Kline Store at Dover.She is survived by her children, Linda (William) Fisher of Ozark, Alabama, Nancy (Ken) Miller of Dover and John Ruefly of Smyrna, Tennessee; grandchildren, Christian Lee Leann Snowden) Rothacher, Michelle Renee Rothacher, Cheri Renee West, Angela Marie (Jimmy) Martin, John Samuel Ruefly, and Josalyn Ruefly; great grandchildren, Montenique Hawkins, Kelci Marie Martin, Rodney Snowden and Tanner Snowden; two sisters, Lillian (Jay) King and Ruby Ringenbach both of Canton and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Sam.The family will receive guests on Friday, March 14, 2008 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.
