Eva Mae Fair

Eva Mae Fair, age 95, of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, July 3, 2014, in Amberwood Manor at New Philadelphia.

A daughter of the late Joseph James and Mattie Smale (Palmer) Wagner, Eva was born September 24, 1918 at Cleveland, Ohio.

She graduated from high school at Scio, and furthered her education through Aultman Hospital’s nursing program, where she obtained her RN certification. For many years following, Eva worked at Aultman Hospital and later was employed by Dr. Hostetler at Sugarcreek. She later joined the staff of Union Hospital at Dover, where she worked for 16 years prior to her retirement.

Eva was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school. In her free time she took part in craft shows where she made many of her own yarn crafts. She also enjoyed watching classic movies, as well as Jeopardy, and Wheel of Fortune. Eva also spent time attending square dances with her son, Dan.

She is survived by her two sons, Daniel E. “Dan” Fair of New Philadelphia and Joseph J. “Joe” Fair of Brookville, Ohio as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Eva was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, James E. Fair who died on August 14, 1989; five brothers, Arthur, William, Eugene, Oscar and, Clarence; and a sister, Sarah.

The family will greet guests on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. An additional hour of visitation will take place in the funeral home’s chapel on Wednesday, July 9, from 9:30 – 10:30 AM where Pastor Rich VanArsdalen will lead a celebration of Eva’s life beginning at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Following services, all are invited to share in a meal and fellowship in the social hall of Otterbein United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia.

Memorial contributions in Eva’s name may be directed to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
