Eunice D. Avon, 93, of New Philadelphia, went to be with the Lord Friday, March 30, 2007 at her residence.Born February 19, 1914 in York Township, she was the daughter of the late Oswald and Marie Adeline Schlafly Zurcher.After completing her formal education at New Philadelphia High School, she then married the love of her life, the late Alfred W. “Curly” Avon. Together, they began a family and Eunice spent her lifetime caring for them as a homemaker. She also took great joy in gardening. She had beautiful flowers around her at all times. Eunice was raised in Jerusalem Church and devoted much of her time to activities there. She was a Sunday School teacher and the altar floral caretaker for more than 50 years. She was also an active member of the community’s Rejoice group.She is survived by her daughters, Linda K. Green of Bolivar and Bonnie J. (Robert) Hill of New Philadelphia; a brother, Dean O. (Edna) Zurcher of Dover; granddaughters, Shelley (Thomas) Quilter of Syracus, NY, Sandra (William) Midgette of Virginia Beach, Suzanne (Andrew) Hobart of New Philadelphia and Aimee (Eric) Weaver of Ravenna; four great-granddaughters; and one sister-in-law, Margaret Avon of New Philadelphia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred W. “Curly” Avon on May 1, 1989, and her sister, Bernice E. Winkler.Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. At the family’s request no public service will be held and burial alongside her husband at Evergreen Burial Park will be held privately.The family requests memorial contributions be directed to Jerusalem Church, 1436 Stonecreek Rd. S.W., New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
