Eugenia Josephine Chini, age 77, of New Philadelphia died peacefully early Sunday morning, August 29, 2010, in Union Hospital at Dover. Born at Priõ, Trento Italy on June 25, 1933, Eugenia was a daughter to the late Elia and Maria Prantil.On July 4, 1934, at the age of one, Eugenia’s family immigrated to the United States and settled at Brooklyn, New York. She graduated from All Saints High School at Brooklyn. On November 8, 1952, she married Eugene Chini. Together the couple would rear one son and share in thirty-seven years of marriage prior to Eugene’s passing on January 25, 1990.For a number of years, Eugenia worked as a secretary for the John A. Roeblings Company, the Hazel Seibert Realty and briefly held employment as a purchasing agent for a nursing home.Eugenia was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at Dover, as well as a member of the New Philadelphia Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans.She will be missed by her family which includes her son, Eugene “Jim” (Susan) Chini of Strasburg, a sister, Ida (Elio) Viola of Queens, New York; two grandchildren, Neil D. Chini of Cincinnati, Ohio and Laura M. Chini of Hudson, Ohio.Two nephews, Michael (Betty) Viola and Julio (Eileen) Viola as well as two great nieces, Nicole and Michelle Viola and a nephew, Andrew Viola, all of New York, complete the family.The family will receive friends on Friday, September 3, 2010, from 4 to 7 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. Christian Wake Services will be held at 6:45 PM. Father James Hatfield will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, September 4, 2010, at 10AM in Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church at Dover. Burial in the North Lawn Cemetery at Canton will follow.Following services, the family will return to the Hospitality Room of the Geib Funeral Center at Dover where a meal and fellowship will be shared.Those unable to attend may send the family personal condolences by signing the online guest registry located on the funeral home’s website.Memorial contributions in Eugenia’s name may be directed to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W Third Street, Dover Ohio 44621 or to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 613 N Tuscarawas Avenue, Dover Ohio 44621.
