Eugene “Junior” Parson, 85, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully in his home following a period of declining health on November 22, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.
Born in New Philadelphia on December 8, 1935, he was the son of the late Eugene C. and Myrl Marie (McNeely) Parson.
After completing his formal education at New Philadelphia High School, he worked for US Ceramic Tile for 10 years prior to beginning his career with the New Philadelphia Fire Department. He served on the fire department from 1966 to 1990. Eugene was named Fire Chief on November 23, 1980 and served until his retirement on December 8, 1990.
Eugene was a lifelong member of the First Church of the Nazarene in New Philadelphia, where he served as head usher and was on the church board.
Eugene will be deeply missed by his wife, Betty Lou (Bucher) Parson of New Philadelphia; his children, Darrell (Sue) Parson, Pastor Dan (Wendy) Parson, and Brenda (Dale) Shroyer; grandchildren, Eric (Angel) Parson, Joshua (Katelyn) Parson, Stacy (Troy) Peterson, Tara Parson, Derek (Aubree) Parson, and Kaila Shroyer; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters, Joanne (Don) Kendle and Leah Fern Puffinberger; sister-in-law, Karen Parson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Eugene was preceded in passing by his brother, Loren O. “Sonny” Parson.
Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Friday, November 26, 2021 from 9:30 to 11:20 a.m. A Firefighter’s Service will begin at 11:20 a.m. Pastor Dan Parson and Rev. Derek Parson will officiate Eugene’s service beginning at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover. A luncheon will be held in the Geib Family Center, located adjacent to the funeral home, following the committal service.
