Eugene F. Maurer

Eugene F. “Oscar” Maurer, 80, of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, April 5, 2007 at his home following a period of declining health.Born August 3, 1926 in Dover, he was the son of the late Curtis and Myrtle (Weaver) Maurer.After graduating from New Philadelphia High School, he honorably served our country in the United States Marie Corp. He then began his professional career, retiring from Union Camp Corporation. He was a member of both the New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post #1445 and the First United Church of Christ in New Philadelphia. Oscar was an avid Ohio sports team fan and also loved listening to music.Oscar raised three children with his wife, the late Matilda J. Maurer. His family includes children, Jan (Wayne) Emerick, Terri Yockey, and Ron Maurer; grandchildren, Tracy Archillatta, Tina Watkins, Jennifer Snyder, Allison (Drew) Robertson, and Emilee (Jordan) Rumore; 12 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Willis Maurer.Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia and Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A service celebrating Oscar’s life will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Hugh B. Berry officiating. Burial alongside his wife will follow at Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia.The family request memorial contributions be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
