Eugene Christian Wenger, age 79, of Stone Creek, died Friday, October 14, 2011, in Walnut Hills Nursing Home at Walnut Creek following a lengthy illness.A son of the late Daniel C. and Elizabeth A. Kohler Wenger, Eugene was born on March 23, 1932 in the family home located in May Valley, New Philadelphia.A lifelong member of Jerusalem Church and former deacon of the congregation, Eugene married the former Ruth Eileen Cline in the church on June 22, 1952.His love for farming spanned nearly six decades as he provided for his family as a dairy producer and in 2000 was presented with an award from the Dairy Farmers of America for his efforts. Known by many as the “egg man”, Eugene also served the surrounding area as a door to door egg salesman for 47 years. Additionally, he enjoyed providing transportation to members of the Amish Community.In addition to his loving wife of 59 years, Eugene leaves behind two daughters, Christine (Tom) Solomon of Houston, Texas and Jill Craddoc of New Philadelphia; a granddaughter, Gretchen (Shannon) McAuliffe of Pearland, Texas; two grandsons, D. Gregory (Nichole) Berry of League City, Texas, and Cole Craddoc of New Philadelphia; a step-grandson, Allen Solomon of Austin, Texas; two great-granddaughters, Caitlin McAuliffe and Kamryn Berry; a step-great-granddaughter, Candace Newman and a step-great grandson, Tyler Newman.Completing the family are three brothers, Dale (Norma) Wenger, Glenn Wenger, and James (Rosetta) Wenger all of New Philadelphia; three sisters-in-law, Kathryn Wenger-Nielsen of Wisconsin, Rose Wenger of Dover and Dorothy Wenger of New Philadelphia and numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by four sisters, Ellen Ladrach, Gertrude Emery, Sylvia Banks, and Ada Alwine; and four brothers, John Wenger, Frank Wenger, Robert Wenger, and Theodore Wenger, Sr. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 19, 2011, from 5-8 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia and again one hour prior to services in the Jerusalem Church on Thursday, October 20, 2011, from 10 â?? 11 AM. Reverend Frank Sapp, Jr. will lead a service celebrating Eugene’s life in the church sanctuary on Thursday at 11 AM. Burial in the Jerusalem Church Cemetery will follow.
