Eugene C. Swonger

Eugene C. Swonger, 88, of Dover died Wednesday October 26, at Beacon Pointe Health Care Center in Uhrichsville, O.A son of the late Robert E. and Bessie Stucky Swonger, Eugene was born October 1, 1917 on the family farm, located on Swonger Rd in Dover, O. He was a graduate of Dover High School Class of 1935 and married his sweetheart Betty J. Affolter on his 21st birthday in 1938.He entered the U.S. Army in February 1945, and served as a member of the Japan occupation force during WW II. Eugene returned home and resumed his position at the Nickles Bakery Company in Navarre O., Here he would spend the next 40 years starting as a home delivery driver and then as a cake mixer and a baker.In addition to his wife Eugene is survived by two daughters, Lois (Bill) Demattio of Midvale and Carol (Mike) McHale, of Vermilion, O.; one brother, Donald (Barbara) Swonger of London, O.; one sister, Mary Lou (Don) Zimmerman of New Philadelphia; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by their two sons, Billy and Gene Swonger Jr.; a step-mother Dorothy Opplinger Swonger, and one brother Robert Swonger Jr.Visitation will be Saturday, October 29, 2005 from 9 to 10 a.m. in the Geib Funeral Center 5600 North Wooster Ave. Dover, O. Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev.Glen Shedlock Officiating.
