Ethelyn Faye “Peg” Stewart, age 86, of New Philadelphia died Monday, December 23, 2013 in Park Village Health Care Center at Dover following a brief period of declining health.
Born on November 21, 1927, at Pompey’s Pillar, Montana, Peg was a daughter of the late Gaylord and Mary (Christensen) Dixon.
Peg graduated from Orange County High School at California and married the love of her life Richard “Dick” Stewart on August 4, 1945 at Flagstaff, Arizona.
Peg was a longtime member of the Stark County Gem & Mineral Club where she loved sharing her finds of old bottles and rocks with other members of the group. Peg and Dick were avid travelers who enjoyed various casinos throughout the United States. Additionally, gardening, sewing, being out of doors, and enjoying the night sky were among her other passions in life. Peg also enjoyed the company of her two friends, Nancy and Bonnie.
She is survived by three sons; Richard Stewart of Apache Junction, Arizona, Gary (wife Diana) Stewart and Steven (wife Ellen) Stewart, both of New Philadelphia, and a daughter; Bonny Wilson, also of New Philadelphia; three grandchildren; Daniel Wilson of New Philadelphia, Ryan (wife Jamie) Stewart of North Carolina, and Sara Stewart of Chicago. Peg was looking forward to meeting her first great-grandson, who is due to arrive in March.
A sister, Charol (husband John) Durica of Costa Mesa, California, a brother, Jerome (wife Luella) Dixon of Big Fork, Montana, and numerous nieces and nephews complete the family.
In addition to her parents, Peg was preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Joyce Best.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 27, 2013 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Cremation will follow visitation with a graveside service being planned for a later date.
