Etheline R. Sampsel, 75, of Dover and formerly of Massillon, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2024, in the Country Club Retirement Campus at Dover, Ohio, following a period of declining health due to dementia.
Born on February 1, 1949, in Canton, Etheline was the daughter of the late William and Mary Ann (Maxin) Carnes. She was a high school graduate who dedicated her life to caring for her family creating a warm and welcoming home and will always be remembered for her kind and welcoming personality. She had a heart full of love and always prioritized spending quality time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Her presence brought joy and comfort to all those around her.
Aside from her role as a homemaker, Etheline had a variety of hobbies and interests that brought her immense joy. She loved playing bingo and card games, listening to music from the 50's and 60's, gardening in her flower garden, and watching her favorite TV shows as well as horror movies. These activities reflected her vibrant spirit and zest for life.
Etheline is survived by her loving daughters, Christal (Brian) Kohler of Dover and Melisa (Rick) Cassidy of New Philadelphia; four grandchildren, Qua Murphy, Joshua Rininger, Julianne Cassidy and Jocelynn Cassidy; her sister, Judy Varn of Canton; a brother, Roger Carnes of Alliance and her ex-husband, David A. Sampsel, who was still part of her life.
In addition to her parents, Etheline was preceded in death by a daughter, Tina Moore and two brothers, Ray Carnes and Dave Carnes.
In keeping with Etheline’s wishes, cremation care is to be provided by the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia and there are no public services to be scheduled.
