Ethel Jane Herron, age 82, of Country Club Retirement Center at Dover, entered her heavenly reward early Thursday afternoon, May 27, 2010. Born at Mineral City, Ohio, August 10, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Ralph Herron and Velma Odessa Huff Herron Tidik. A graduate of Mineral City High School and a faithful member of First Baptist Church at New Philadelphia, Jane continued her education, by graduating from Kings College in New York, New York, where her faith deepened. Thereafter, between 1959 and 2002, she served as a missionary at the Calvary Evangelistic Mission in Puerto Rico for 43 years. There, she ministered to the people of Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Leeward Islands in publishing, the Radio Stations, the Bible Correspondence School and the Servicemen’s Center. She’ll be long remembered by her colleagues at the mission for her loving spirit, diligence and commitment to the Lord, as well as being an expert chocolate chip cookie baker. Survivors include her three step-sisters, Ruth Luttrell, still serving at the mission in San Juan, Puerto Rico; Ann Luttrell of Muncie, Indiana; and Florence Zoldak of Cleveland; and a step-brother; Herbert Tidik of Conway, North Carolina. Surviving at the Mission in Puerto Rico are step-neices Janet and Donna Luttrell, and step-nephew David Luttrell and his sons Michael and Matthew. Several great-nieces and great-nephews from her father’s family also survive. Her colleague in missionary service, and caregiver Marjorie Harstine, of New Philadelphia, completes the family. In addition to her parents, Jane is preceded in death by her stepfather; John Tidik, a brother Lewis R. Herron, a nephew Thomas Herron, a sister-in-law Mary Herron, and a sister; Leota Joy Kalp.Friends are invited to call Saturday from Noon Â? 1PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia, where Pastor Ryan Ervin will lead Ms. Herron’s funeral service. Burial will follow in New Cumberland Cemetery.
