Ethel Elizabeth Stratton, 94, of New Dawn Retirement Community at Dover, died Sunday afternoon, October 15, 2006.Born April 22, 1912 in Dover, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Elizabeth Reiss Teel. After graduating from Dover High School, Ethel began her professional career, retiring from Union Hospital at Dover working in central supply as a nurse’s aid. On November 18, 2002, Ethel and her late husband, Albert C. Stratton, celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary before he passed away on December 10, 2002. Ethel was a member at the First Baptist Church in New Philadelphia for more than 60 years. She not only participated in weekly worship, but also gave of her time and talent as a choir director and a Sunday School teacher. Other organizations in which Ethel belonged include the Modern Woodmen of America and the Super 60s Kitchen Band. She also had dancing fingers that supported her love for playing the organ. She also enjoyed camping at Atwood Lake and Florida.Ethel’s family includes her daughter, Pat (David) Tinkey of Tampa, Florida; her daughter-in-law, Marilyn Stratton of New Philadelphia; four grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Midge Overton of Dover.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, David D. Stratton, who died January 2, 2001; sisters, Erma Ferguson and Verna Marshall; and one brother, Walter Teel.Visitation will be held Thursday, October 19, 2006 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home Chapel at New Philadelphia. A service celebrating Ethel’s life will immediately follow visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Mark Trotter officiating. Burial alongside her husband will be held in East Avenue Cemetery followed by a reception at the Dover Geib Funeral Center, 5600 N. Wooster Avenue, Dover. The family requests memorial contributions in Ethel’s memory be directed to Indian Hills Christian School, Attn: Mark Aksterowicz, 878 Commercial Avenue S.W., New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
