Esther Helen Zedi

Esther Helen Zedi, age 85, of New Dawn Health Care Center at Dover, and formerly of New Philadelphia and the Stone Creek Valley, died peacefully Thursday morning, June 19, 2008. Born at Farmerstown, in Holmes County, Ohio, December 1, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Gottfried and Alice Knutti Winkelman. Her father was an accomplished cheese maker, who owned and operated the former Farmerstown Cheese. Esther was a longtime member of the Jerusalem Church. She loved to look after and baby sit children. In her spare time, she enjoyed crossword puzzles and thoroughly enjoyed a good round of Jass. On August 27, 1955, she married Jacob Zedi. The couple celebrated nearly thirty-four years together until his death August 10, 1989. Esther will be sadly missed by her family that includes her only surviving sister, Gladys Neff of New Philadelphia, as well as her sister-in-law, Joan Winkelman of Pickerington, Ohio; a brother-in-law, Jim Mattison of Stone Creek, Ohio, and the siblings of her late husband; Alice (Bill) Leggett of Dover, Betty (Ray) Stilgenbauer of New Philadelphia, Walter (Nancy) Yaggi of New Philadelphia, and Leroy Yaggi, also of New Philadelphia. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Zedi is preceded in death by her sisters (in birth order) Pauline Amacher, Bernice Puttman, Ida Miller, brothers Warner “Roy” Winkelman, who died in infancy, Arnold and Floyd Winkelman, and sister June Mattison. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a special friend and caregiver, Dianne Harmon, of New Philadelphia, completes Esther’s family. Friends are invited to call Monday, June 23, 2008, from 5PM â?? 8PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Dr. Terry Downin will lead Mrs. Zedi’s funeral service Tuesday morning at 10:30 AM in Jerusalem Church on Stonecreek Road, New Philadelphia. Burial, alongside her husband, will follow in Jerusalem Church Cemetery. A reception will be held in the church fellowship hall at the conclusion of the service. Those unable to attend are invited to share memories and condolences with the family by visiting the funeral home’s website. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West Third Street, Dover, OH 44622, or to the Building Fund at Jerusalem Church, 1417 Stonecreek Road SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
