Ernest Wyman, age 85, of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, June 14, 2017 while in the care of Community Hospice’s Truman House.
A son of the late Ernst and Martha Soldati Wyman, Ernie was born at Shanesville, Ohio on September 17, 1931.
Ernie was a Korean War Veteran who honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army.
At a young age, he worked for the SOHIO gas stations. He later spent more than 25 years with the Gradall Company at New Philadelphia. Ernie had a very strong work ethic and instilled the importance of hard work in his family. He loved gardening, designing, building and maintaining ornamental ponds and keeping Koi fish. He also enjoyed feeding and watching birds, vacationing with his family, and traveling throughout the United States to various dog shows with his daughter, Cindy.
Ernie took immense pride in his wood working and craftsmanship skills. He purchased and remodeled many homes through the years and spent countless hours getting them ready to sell so he could move on to his next challenge. He even designed and helped to build a horse barn on his daughter’s property. Ernie enjoyed building model airplanes, boats, ducks, and even a crane. He also liked restoring classic cars and trucks.
In addition to a strong work ethic, Ernie impressed upon his family the importance of compassion and respect for others, and to do a good job in all aspects of life.
Ernie is survived by two daughters, Beth “Betsy” (Dan) Becknell of New Philadelphia and Cindy (Chuck) Berger of Newcomerstown; a granddaughter, Tammy (Jason) Colley of Pickerington; two great-grandchildren, Madeline and Gavin Colley; his sisters, Ricki Lehman of Dover, Virginia Williams of Switzerland, Kay (Roger) Dalton of Kentucky; a brother, Fred (Marion) Wyman of Dover; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ernie was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Peggy Wyman.
In keeping with Ernie’s wishes there will be no public visitation or calling hours. Cremation care will be handled by Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory.
In gratitude for their excellent care and compassion, the family wishes for contributions in Ernie’s name to be directed to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
