Ernest "Ernie" Mizer

Ernest (Ernie) Mizer, age 88, of New Philadelphia, passed away in Park Village Retirement Center on Thursday, April 10, 2025 after a period of declining health.

Ernie was born on December 19, 1936 in Dover Township to the late Walter and Margaret (Rausch) Mizer.

He was a 1953 graduate of Scio High School. After high school graduation he began his long career working for Marsh Lumber. He retired in 1998 as a truck driver.

Ernie was known for his quick wit and dry sense of humor. In his retirement he and Doris spent many hours walking at the New Towne Mall and enjoying Tuscora Park together. He also was an avid Cleveland sports fan, always cheering on the teams especially the Indians/Guardians. Ernie also loved to cheer on the Buckeyes.

On June 15, 1963, he married the love of his life, the former Doris Arlene Hennen. Together they enjoyed 54 years of marriage before her passing in January of 2017.

Ernie is survived by his daughter, Deborah Warther of Dover; son, Mark Mizer of Dennison; grandchildren, Olivia Warther, Abigail Warther, and Kaci Mizer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris Mizer; and brothers, Dale Mizer, Dean Mizer, and Glen Mizer.

The family will greet guests on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 from 10:00 to 12:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church, 201 W. High Ave., New Philadelphia, OH. Pastor Ryan Cockrill will lead a funeral service beginning at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow at Holmes Church Cemetery.
