Erna (Saath) Schulz, 91, of New Philadelphia, died Friday, March 24, 2006 in New Dawn Retirement Community at Dover following a lengthy illness.Erna was born in Gelsenkirchen, Germany on July 8, 1914 to the late Gertrude (Ewert) Saath.During World War II, Erna was employed as a secretary at a cigar factory in Berlin, Germany. She also owned and operated a tavern in Berlin along with her husband, Heinz.In 1967, Erna and her husband moved to the Canary Islands where they were also involved in the restaurant business. Then in 1978, the couple came to the United States where they made their home in New Philadelphia. Erna then proudly became a United States Citizen in 1999.Erna loved her family dearly, which include a daughter and son-in-law, Hannelore and Robert Ricer of New Philadelphia, one granddaughter, Nadine (Mathew) Russell of New Philadelphia; two grandchildren, Kailey and Cooper Russell and one brother, Karl (Heidi) Ewert of Germany.She was preceded in death by her mother and loving husband, Heinz Otto Schulz, who died in 1998.In keeping with Erna’s wishes, there will be no visitation or services observed and cremation will take place under the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.
