Ermile D. “Denny” Dennis, 76, of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday, February 19, 2002, in Union Hospital following a sudden illness. Born, February 28, 1925, in Bowerston, he was a son of the late Lloyd and Iva Bower Dennis. Denny attended New Philadelphia High School. He served with the U.S. Army 580th Ambulance Company Motor Separate in the Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He married the former Rose M. Vielmetti, who survives, on September 9, 1946.Denny was employed for a number of years by the Tuscarawas County Road and Bridge Department, and retired in 1985 from the Ohio Department of Transportation. He was a member of Crooked Run United Methodist Church, New Philadelphia. Denny dearly loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-granddaughter. He enjoyed farming and cared greatly for his animals. Denny helped his neighbors and was always there for those who needed him.In addition to his wife, Rose, he is survived by three daughters, Sharon (James) Bloom, Susan (Todd) Immel and Holly (Jack) Hershberger, all of New Philadelphia; son, David (Kim) Dennis of Gnadenhutten; eight grandchildren, Denise (Christopher) Harmon, Jamie Cox, Kristopher, Jackie and David Hershberger. Sarah, Laura and Adam Dennis; one great-granddaughter, Leah Rose Harmon; sister, Wanda Krier of Massillon; two brothers, Wilmer (Gladys) Dennis of Orville and Howard (Mary) Dennis of Massillon; numerous nieces and nephews.Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Bernadine Dennis.A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 23, 2002, at 1:30 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home, New Philadelphia, with Rev. George Reichman, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Burial Park, New Philadelphia, where the New Philadelphia post of the V.F.W. will conduct military rites. There will be a reception in the Geib Family Center following the committal. Visitation will be Friday, February 22, 2002, 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the funeral home.
