Erma L. McCaslin Baker, age 92, of Dennison and formerly of Beach City, died Friday, July 1, 2022, while in the care of Community Hospice’s Truman House in New Philadelphia.
Born on August 11, 1929, in Cadiz, Ohio Erma was a daughter of the late Carl and Lena Edgar McCaslin and was a graduate of the former Freeport High School.
For many years Erma owned and operated both an antique store and a women’s clothing store in Beach City. She loved gardening, caring for her dogs, being with her grandchildren, and socializing with friends.
Erma is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Baker Welch of Dennison and V. René (husband Paul Codispoti) Baker of Brewster; her grandchildren, Robert (Wendy) Williams, Johanna Williams, Dylan Welch, Lauren Welch, Austin (Stella) Alexander, and Kait (husband, Alan Franck) Alexander; six great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Shirley McCaslin, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Erma was preceded in death by a daughter, Terri Dodd; two, sons-in-law, Kenneth R. Welch, and Richard Dodd, and her siblings, Valura Pierce, Ila Beauchemin, Robert McCaslin, and Glenn McCaslin.
In keeping with Erma’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or services. Cremation care has been handled by the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia. Inurnment, at a later date, will be held in the Moorefield Cemetery in Harrison County.
