Eric Shawn Hizer, 43, of Middletown, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on March 18, 2017.
He was born in New Philadelphia, Ohio and graduated from New Philadelphia High school in 1992. He earned his Pharmacist degree in 1997 from Ohio Northern University and was a dedicated employee of Walgreens for over 19 years.
Eric was a world class marathon runner, completing seven marathons, as well as a competitor in the bi-annual Morgan’s Little Miami Triathlon. He competed in running races throughout the country as well as in Puerto Rico. His hobbies included travelling to Europe and his favorite destination was Puerto Rico. Eric was an accomplished salsa dancer and his favorite nightclub hangout was the Nuyorican Café in old San Juan. Eric inherited a love for trains from his father and amassed a collection of electric trains and an extensive scenic train layout that occupied most of the lower level of his home.
Eric is survived by his wife Naomi Galarza and their dog George, his parents, Tom and Joan Hizer of New Philadelphia, and three brothers: Nicholas and Misty of Bedford, Pennsylvania, Nathan and Hedda of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Matt and Laci of New Philadelphia. Eric was also the proud uncle of seven nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his favorite canine companion of 12 years, his beloved Boston terrier, Bruzer.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 22, 2017 from 2 to 3 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A service honoring Eric’s life will follow at 3 PM in the funeral home’s chapel with the Rev. Carolyn Behrendt officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to your local animal shelter or SPCA.
