Ena M. “Penny” Whiddon, 96, of Dover, died Tuesday, November 25, 2014 in Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia following a period of declining health.
A daughter of the late Walter James and Ada Winifred (Howard) Powell, Penny was born September 5, 1918 at Sandwich, England.
Penny served in the British Army Dental Corps from 1941 to 1945. Then on November 17, 1945, she married Wilbur D. Whiddon and the couple raised two children, Keith and Sylvia. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church at New Philadelphia.
She is survived by her children, Sylvia (Robert) Rhode and Keith (Cathy) Whiddon both of Dover; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Penny was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters, Glenys, Lillian and Mae and a brother, Bert.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 30, 2014 from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. A funeral service celebrating Penny’s life will be held on Monday, December 1, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in Trinity Episcopal Church with Father Paul Johansen officiating. Following the service a luncheon will be held in the church. Interment will then take place at 3 p.m. in Zanesville Memorial Park.
