Emmett W. Basiletti

Emmett Welz Basiletti passed away on January 9, 2023 in his home, 12 days prior to his 99^th birthday.

Born in New Philadelphia on January 21, 1924, he was the son of the late Massimo and Bertha Minnie (Welz) Basiletti.

Emmett married his lifelong love, the former Inez Irene Griffey, who preceded him in death October 1, 2005.

Emmett honorably served his country in the U.S. Army Corps. Following his military service, he worked in coal mines throughout his professional career. He was a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America.

Emmett’s favorite pastimes were fishing, playing cards, and bird watching. He also loved watching the Cleveland Indians.

Emmett will be sadly missed by his 4 children, Robert (Mary) of Dundee, John (Brenda) and Dianne Waldren, both of New Philadelphia, and Gary (Dee) of Coshocton. Emmett was blessed with 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Emmett was preceded in passing by 17 siblings.

Visitation will be held Friday at Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia from 5 to 7 p.m. A service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. with Deacon Ron Onslow officiating. Burial will follow in East Avenue Cemetery.
