Emerson Milo Vandever, 83, of Columbia, South Carolina and formerly of Dayton, Ohio, died Friday, April 16, 2010.A son of the late Raymond and Julie (Whittenburg) Vandever, Emerson was born December 10, 1926 at Crossville, Tennessee.He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and was stationed aboard the General A.E. Anderson destroyer ship. Emerson always looked forward the annual reunions with his fellow sailors. He was a 30 year employee of General Motors at Dayton retiring in 1980.Emerson enjoyed tending to his apple orchard and vegetable garden but more so, enjoyed sharing his crops with family and friends. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and daughter visiting many places throughout the United States.Surviving are his brother, Eston; sisters, Gladys and Bea; a special nephew, Gene Music; a special niece, Barbara Flinn; many other nieces and nephews and two brothers-in-law, Glenn and Jim Carlisle.Emerson was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 56 years, Lois (Carlisle) Vandever; a son, Mark; a daughter, Brenda Kay; two sisters, Dolly Lee and Mayme and a nephew, Mike.The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 22, 2010 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Community of Christ Church at New Philadelphia. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the church. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
