Elvon Burke Fazenbaker

Elvon “Snits” Burke Fazenbaker, age 84, of New Philadelphia, and formerly of Dover, died Saturday, April 26, 2008, in Union Hospital at Dover.Born at Dover, January 16, 1924, he was the son of the late Edgar and Emma M. (Stakem) Fazenbaker. After graduating from Dover High School in 1943, Snits served honorably during World War II and the Korean War in the United States Army. He was decorated with the WWII Victory Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, the Army Occupation Medal, the Korean Service Medal, 2 bronze stars, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.Once home, Snits as a conductor and brakeman on the Nickle Plate Railroad, ultimately retiring from the Norfolk & Western Railroad. After retiring from the railroad, he fulfilled his lifelong dream when he moved to Venice, Florida. There, he could be found at the Waterford Golf Course, either playing golf or caring for the golf carts.Snits was a member of Cypress Lodge #604 F. & A. M. at Strasburg, and Dover Post # 3463 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He leaves behind a family that includes his children, Dennis (Joy) Fazenbaker of New Philadelphia, Jane (Kim) Schriever of Dover, Linda (Bob) Fox of New Philadelphia and Kellie (Mike) Zuchengo of Dover; three sisters, Squitz (Eddie) Fritz of Dover, Peg (Dave) Hager of Ft. Myers, Florida and “Boots” Alexander of Sarasota, Florida; his grandchildren, Justin, Corey and Carly Fazenbaker, Jessica Schriever, Jake Fox, and Kelsey Fazenbaker; his former wife, Pat Fazenbaker; and numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Snits was preceded in death by his siblings, Mike Fazenbaker and “Toop” Hanks.Friends are invited to call at the Geib Funeral Center in Dover on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 from 5 to 8 p.m. A service celebrating Snits’ life will be held in the funeral center on Wednesday beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jim Borton officiating.
