Elmer D. Meese Jr, 78, of New Philadelphia, died November 27, 2008 in Aultman Hospital at Canton.A son of the late Elmer D. Meese Sr and Edna M. (Mason) Meese, Elmer was born April 9, 1930 at Sherrodsville, Ohio.He attended New Philadelphia Schools and served in the United States Army during the Korean War.Elmer was retired from Fleming Foods where he was a general counselor. He was previously employed by the Timken Company and was the owner of Meese Market at New Philadelphia.He enjoyed watching football and was a fan of the Cleveland Browns and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Elmer was an avid golfer who served as the head of the senior’s league at Five Waters Golf Course. He was a member of the New Philadelphia V.F.W. and a life member of the New Philadelphia Elks.He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Carroll D. (Penick) Meese; his children, Elmer (Sandy) Meese, Mike Meese and Amber (Ted) Ricker all of New Philadelphia, Randy (Cheryl) Meese of Dover and Robin (Gary) Tumbling of Marietta, Georgia; 14 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; a sister, Betty Airgood of New Philadelphia; a brother, Lloyd (Wanda) Meese of Chamblee, Georgia; brothers-in-law, Edward Penick and Jerry Penick both of New Philadelphia and numerous nieces and nephews.Elmer was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Richard “Dick” Meese.Elmer’s family will hold private services on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Interment will take place in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.Contributions may be made in Elmer’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 525 North Broad Street, Canfield, OH 44406.
