Ellen L. Stucky, 99, died Saturday, January 6, 2007, at New Dawn Retirement Community in Dover.Born in New Philadelphia on September 5, 1907, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Laura Girt Larkin. Ellen came through a very frail childhood with many asthmatic attacks in which she missed many days of school. But, these were the days in which she learned from her mother great lessons in cooking and homemaking. So, it was natural that when she was eager to enter the work field, she had no trouble finding a position as housekeeper with a family that loved her.Following her marriage to Carl Stucky on April 19, 1941, the couple lived in Canton. Dueber United Methodist Church was of great importance to them in their life there. She also found much enjoyment and meaning and made many lasting friendships in Canton Chapter #190 Order of Eastern Star, and through her membership in Trirosis. She enjoyed working for the philanthropic projects of the club.Although she and Carl had no children, one of her great pleasures was in caring for children, especially infants, and her and Carl’s young nieces and nephews. They enjoyed many trips together, but it was in making a comfortable and beautiful home for their families and friends that gave them their greatest pleasure. Ellen’s wonderful cooking, including the many boxes of cookies she sent to her brothers in the service, brings many memories. In addition to her parents and her beloved husband who died in January of 1980, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Zedith (Charles) Truman, Olwen (Paul) Wilson and six brothers, Martin, Emmett (Isabelle), Warren (Zell), Garnet (Iva), Adrian (Janet), and Clarence (Edith) Larkin. She is survived by one sister, Marjorie Larkin of Dover and many nieces and nephews including Velma Truman and Tim Larkin, both of Dover and Doris Bonnell and Tom, Frank, and Jeanette Larkin, all of New Philadelphia.Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Her funeral service will be held in the funeral home’s chapel on Wednesday beginning at 10:30 a.m. followed by burial at East Avenue Cemetery. A meal will be served at the Geib Family Center, located adjacent to the funeral home, following the committal service. The family requests memorial contributions to her life be sent to Dueber Methodist Church, 645 Dueber Ave., S.W., Canton, Ohio, 44706.
