Ella Virginia Reed Huss, 82, a long time resident of Uhrichsville and New Philadelphia died on Tuesday, November 5, 2002, at the Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, MD from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. Born October 1, 1920 at her parent’s farm near Tappan Lake, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Evans and Lena Law Reed. She graduated as the salutatorian from Uhrichsville High School in 1938 and from The Ohio State University in 1943 with a degree in business education. After teaching for a year, she married Harry Otto Huss in 1944. They moved to Baltimore, Maryland in 1948 where they raised their two children. In 1978, they retired to Ohio, living at 1274 Independence Circle in New Philadelphia. From there they managed and owned the historic Law Farm (c. 1846) where her mother and grandfather, John Quincy Law, were born. Ella was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the War of 1812 and the First United Church of Christ in New Philadelphia. Ella will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother; a devoted animal-lover, and a person who gave all of herself to those close to her.She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Virginia (Paul Dame) Huss of Crofton, MD; a son, William Reed Huss of Wayland, MA; granddaughters, Elena Danielle and Kelsey Marita Huss; and step-grandson, Thomas Evan Dame.In addition to her parents and husband, Ella was preceded in death by her brother, William Law Reed, who died in 1940 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.A Funeral Service to celebrate Ella’s life will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2002, at 1 p.m. at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia. Burial will follow at Ridgecrest Memory Gardens in Dover. The family will host a reception at the Geib Family Center following the committal.
