Elizabeth K. Meechan

June 12, 1928 — December 2, 2008

Elizabeth K. “Betty” Meechan, age 80, of Stone Creek, died early Tuesday morning, December 2, 2008, in Union Hospital, the result of complications following an October automobile accident. Born at Canton, June 12, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Everett E. and Sadie C. Slater Needs. She graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1945. A homemaker for most of her life, Betty devoted herself to caring for others. For the past forty-one years, she has dedicated herself as a volunteer at the Tuscarawas County Home. Her volunteer miles driving friends and those in need to and from medical appointments and shopping rival those of modern transportation services. Betty’s friends and family will miss the baked goods that she was known to deliver, fresh from her kitchen. On September 27, 1943, Betty married Robert Cramer. They were married nearly forty-one years when he died September 11, 1984. On June 18, 1990, Betty and John “Ted” Meechan were united in marriage. In addition to her husband Ted, of the home, Betty leaves behind a family that includes a daughter; Ann L. (husband Howard) Heavelyn and a son; Robert M. Cramer, all of New Philadelphia, five step-sons; James Meechan of Dover, Eugene (wife Sue) Meechan of Raymond, Ohio, David (wife Dianna) Meechan of Bowerston, Timothy (wife Karen) Meechan, William (wife Kim) Meechan, all of New Philadelphia. She’ll be sadly missed by four grandchildren; Jeff (wife Nicole) Mitres of Sherrodsville, Jessica Marcincavage of Newcomerstown, Jordan Marcincavage of West Lafayette, and Brittany Cramer of Kent. Sixteen step-grandchildren; Lori, John, Patrick, Holly, Dwight, Brent, Marcie, Holly, Michael, Erin, Elly, Allison, Jesse, Seth, T.J. Zack, and Sawyer, as well as two great-grandchildren; Peyton Mitres and Josiah Marcincavage, along with many, many step-great-grandchildren who complete the family. In addition to her parents and first husband, Betty is preceded in death by her daughter, Angela K. Marcincavage, two step-sons; John and Mike Meechan, and a brother; Paul Needs. Friends are invited to call Thursday afternoon, December 4, from 4 to 7 in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. The Rev. Brad Ross will lead Mrs. Meechan’s funeral service Friday morning at 10:30 in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens. Following the committal service, family and friends will gather for a reception in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home. Those unable to attend are invited to share memories and condolences with the family by visiting the funeral home’s website. So that her legacy of care to the residents of the Tuscarawas County Home may continue, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Donation Fund, 441 University Drive NE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663, or to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West Third Street, Dover, OH 44622.Linn-Hert-Geib(330) 343-5506www.geibcares.com
