Elizabeth Jane Bigler, age 85, of Dover, died Tuesday, September 6, 2011, in Union Hospital at Dover.A daughter of the late Andrew H. and Louise Phelps Perry, Betty, as she was known to family and friends, was born on February 22, 1926, at Canton, Ohio. She attended New Philadelphia High School, married Dale R. Bigler on October 5, 1946, and as a couple reared three children and shared in more than 40 years of marriage prior to Dale’s passing on March 5, 1991.Betty enjoyed looking after and cooking for her family, especially her grandchildren. She also found joy in craft work which included quilting, crocheting, painting portraits and landscape scenes, and doll making, which she sold at area flea markets. Additionally, she enjoyed canning vegetables from her garden, traveling throughout the United States as well as taking camping and fishing trips.Elizabeth is survived by two daughters, Judith A. (Gary E.) Wilhelm of Strasburg and Sharon Sutton of Fresno, California; a sister, Lois (Earl) Ruben of Bull Head City, Arizona, nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents and husband, Elizabeth was preceded in death by a son Dale R. Bigler, II; a sister, Jean Stephan and a son-in-law, Dr. Edward Sutton.The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Saturday, September, 10, 2011, from 10 – 11 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Rev. Frank Sapp, Jr. will lead a funeral service celebrating Betty’s life at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the funeral home’s chapel with burial to follow in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Following services, the family wishes to invite guests to join them in Jerusalem Church Social Hall where a memorial luncheon will be shared.
