Elizabeth D. Specht

Elizabeth D. Specht, 86, of Sugarcreek, died early Wednesday morning, May 21, 2003 at Union Hospital in Dover following a brief illness. She was born April 14, 1917 to the late Augustus W. and Verna B. Miller Boltz in Stone Creek. Later she was confirmed into the Stone Creek Reformed church where she taught Sunday school and Bible school for the kindergarten class. On October 21, 1942 she married Dayton H. Specht and joined the Ragersville Zion United Church of Christ where she later taught Sunday school. She was also active in the church’s Women’s Guild serving as president and treasurer. Mrs. Specht was the congregation secretary for 21 years. She was a member of Jefferson Grange for more than 70 years as well as being a member of the Ragersville Historical Society, Sugarcreek Museum, Silver Clover Club of Ohio, and the 4-H Foundation. She also served on the Tuscarawas County Extension Committee and served as host of Farmer Day in 1970 at her family’s farm, and acted as an agent of the Specht Hobalara Farm, Inc. Her husband, Dayton preceded her in death on August 13, 1996. Additionally, she was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd Boltz and her stepfather, Emery Gintz. She is survived by two sons, Edward F. (Virginia) Specht of New Philadelphia and Charles A. (Jean) Specht of Sugarcreek; four grandchildren, Sonya (Steve) Quillin of Stone Creek, Austin (Karen) Specht of New Philadelphia and Justin and Terri Specht of Sugarcreek, three great-grandchildren, Sienna and Ranson Quillin of Stone Creek and Henry Specht of New Philadelphia. Calling hours will be Friday, May 23, 2003 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Ragersville Zion United Church of Christ where the funeral will be conducted on Saturday morning, May 24, 2003 at 11:00 AM. Pastor Edward W. Morrison will officiate. Burial alongside her husband will follow at Ragersville Cemetery. Following the committal service at the cemetery, a luncheon will be shared in the church’s Great Hall. Contributions may be made to Ragersville Zion United Church of Christ, 8831 Crooked Run Rd. S.W.
