Betty A. Wallace, age 91, a longtime resident of Strasburg, Ohio and recent resident of Country Club Retirement Center at Dover passed away peacefully on February, 27 2012.
She was born January 5, 1921 in Alderson, Oklahoma to the late Walter and Mary (Meyer) Nedved.
She was a 1939 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. On October, 8, 1946, she married Wilbur C. Wallace and as a couple reared three children and shared 32 years of marriage prior to his passing on October 31, 1978.
In 1979, Betty retired from Apple Creek State Hospital as a Pharmacy Technician. She enjoyed crafts and having family and friends stopping by anytime of the day. Never one to let others go hungry; her favorite saying was “What can I fix you?”
Betty dearly loved her cats, especially the stray ones which visited her home. She was a member of the Senior Citizens, AARP, Ohio Pensions Employment Retirement Systems, and previously attended St. John’s United Church of Christ in Strasburg.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter, Ray (Susan) Wallace of Sherrills Ford, North Carolina, Sandra Cookson and Wilbur Jr. (Trish) Wallace of Strasburg, Ohio.
Also surviving are her grandchildren, Ben Cookson IV, Amanda (Mark) Secrest, Melissa Cookson, Stephanie (Aaron) Carlisle and Wilbur Wallace III; two great grandchildren, Ben Cookson V and Colby Cookson complete her family. She will be missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her stepfather, Stephen Woytovich, four sisters, Frances Tylka, Mary Koman, Ann Engel, Irene Walan, five brothers, John, Frank, Walter Nedved, and two infant brothers; one stepsister, Frances Blunt and one step-brother, Frank Wyatt.
The family will greet guests on Saturday, March 3, 2012, from 9:00 – 11:00 AM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover where Rev. Hugh B. Berry will lead a celebration of Betty’s life on Saturday at 11AM. Burial will follow in the Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover. Following services, the family wishes to invite guests to join them in the Hospitality Room of Dover Funeral Center.
