Elizabeth “Lizzy” Amos, age 93, of Park Village Health Care Center at Dover, passed away peacefully late Tuesday morning, July 19, 2011. Born at Cadiz, October 20, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Alvin P. Porter and Ida Mae Masters. She was reared by foster parents and attended school in the New Cumberland area. On May 20, 1937, Lizzy married Frank Amos and went on to celebrate almost fifty years of marriage before his death. Lizzy was a longtime and faithful member of Bisel United Methodist Church, and the Grange. She loved her pets, tending to the needs of her family, and hosting weekly Sunday dinners well into her late 80’s. For more than twenty years, Lizzy worked at the Sunnyslope Nursing Home at Bowerston, and kept busy cleaning houses for most of her life. She’ll be sadly missed by her son, Tom “Pops” Amos of Strasburg. Two grandsons, Todd (wife, Gina) Amos and Troy (wife Starr) Amos, all of Strasburg also survive. Three great-grandsons; Dakota, Tanner, and Tye Amos complete the family. In addition to her parents, and husband, Lizzy is preceded in death by her brothers Harry, Joe, Jim, and Howard Porter, as well as a sister, Debbie Porter. Friends are invited to call Sunday, from 2-4PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. Pastor Joe Stephon will lead Mrs. Amos’ funeral service Monday morning at 11:00 in the funeral center with burial at Sherrodsville Memory Gardens.Those unable to attend are invited to share memories and condolences with the family by visiting the funeral home’s website.
