Elizabeth A. “Betty” Riker, 92, of Roswell passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2005 in Park Village Assisted Living at Dover.A daughter of the late Steve and Mary (Vanyo) Farkas, Betty was born December, 10, 1913 in Roswell, Ohio.She attended Roswell School and was primarily a homemaker. She was employed at the Belmont Plant prior to her marriage.On October 24, 1936, Betty married Ernest W. Riker and together they raised seven children.Betty was a member of the former St. Elizabeth Church in Roswell and a current member of Sacred Heart Church in New Philadelphia. She was a devoted parishioner having been a member of the Altar Society as well as many other activities in the church. Betty was nominated for the Catholic Woman of the Year award.She was a member of the Keeping in Touch Â? Senior Citizens Group in Roswell and was also a former Girl Scout Leader.Betty loved her family dearly and she will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and in the eyes of her family she will always be considered their hero.She is survived by three daughters, Betty (Jay) Huffman of New Philadelphia, Karen (Steve) Gloeckner of Dover and Mary (Newt) Rothacher of Dennison; two sons, David (Carol) Riker of New Philadelphia and Fred (Linda) Riker of Dennison; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rose Jarrell of Mississippi, Margaret Freeman of California and Dorothy Moffett of Virginia and one brother, Joseph Andrews of Virginia.Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ernest who died April 14th, 2003; two sons, Ernest C. Riker and Robert Riker; two sisters, Mary Ferrall and Ellen Julius; and two brothers, Mike Farkas and Steve FarkasVisitation will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2005 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia with Christian Wake service being held at 5:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 30, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church in New Philadelphia with Monsignor George Schlegel officiating. Burial will follow in St. Elizabeth’s Cemetery in Roswell. A memorial reception will be held in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia following the services.
