Elizabeth “Libby” A. Baker, a longtime resident of the Tuscarawas Valley died early Monday, September 7, 2009 following a brief illness.A daughter to the late Albert M. and Glenna Grace (McConkey) Gibson, Libby was born at Cambridge, Ohio.She attended Cambridge High School and in September of 1957, she married Clyde D. Baker. Prior to his passing, the couple owned and operated the former Clyde D. Baker Jewelry Store which was located in Downtown New Philadelphia.Libby also spent a period of time employed by the former Heller Tool Company, of Newcomerstown, and the former Joy Manufacturing.Spending time outdoors was one of Libby’s many passions. She enjoyed spending time working around her yard and tending to the gardens that surrounded her home. Additionally, Libby was a Life Member of the New Philadelphia Lady Elks. When time permitted, Libby also enjoyed outings and shopping trips. Her family was of great significance to her also. She was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed following the New Philadelphia High School teams, The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Indians and Browns. Libby leaves behind a family that includes three sisters, Patsy (Carl) Smith of Newcomerstown, Dorothy (Robert) Miller of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and Ethel Mekeska of Houston, Texas; her brother-in-law, Stanley Korpeiski of Gahanna, O.; and her sister-in-law, Mary Gibson, of Tipp City, O.Many nieces, nephews and close friends complete the family.In addition to her parents and husband, Libby was preceded in death by two sisters, Edith Archer and Helen Korpieski and five brothers, Albert Gibson, Walter Gibson, Clyde Gibson, Glenn Gibson and Arthur L. Gibson.The family will receive friends in the chapel of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 from 11:00 Â? 1:00 PM. Reverend Dr. Steven Bailey will lead a funeral service celebrating Libby’s Life at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.The family requests that memorial contributions in Libby’s name be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
