Eleanor Martinelli

Eleanor Fischio Martinelli, 91, of New Philadelphia, died Friday, May 23, 2014 in Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia following a period of declining health.

A daughter of the late Dominic and Elvira DePastino, Eleanor was born May 16, 1923 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

In her younger years, Eleanor worked as a sales clerk at the former Montgomery Ward department store in Dover and as a waitress at the former Elby’s Restaurant in New Philadelphia. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia and served as a former secretary for the Catholic Order of Foresters. She was also a member of the Tuscarawas County Senior Center and enjoyed playing Bingo.

She is survived by her daughters, Angela Howard of Canton and Elvira Eberly of Midvale; her grandchildren, Michael (companion, Linda Slocum) Harris of New Philadelphia, William (Lorri) Howard of Chesapeake, Virgina, James (Heather) Eberly of Toledo, Ohio and William Eberly of Midvale; two step grandchildren, Leanne Gonzalez of Tuscarawas and LeRoy (Sheree) Eberly of Canfield, Ohio; 22 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a sister, Laverne Pompa of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; three sisters-in-law, Clara Virzi of Cleveland, Erma Frew of California and Helen (Harold) Saccherman of Girard, Ohio; two brothers-in-law, Frank (Pearl) Fischio and Vincent (Peggy) Fischio both of New Philadelphia and numerous nieces and nephews.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Amico “Mike” Fischio; a son-in-law, LeRoy Eberly, five brothers; three sisters; two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 26, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A service celebrating Eleanor’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Jeff Coning officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia. A luncheon will follow the service in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.
