Eleanor June Watson

Eleanor June Watson, 89, of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, May 05, 2016 in New Dawn Retirement Community at Dover following a period of declining health.

A daughter of the late Joseph Scott and Margaret Irene (Frye) Lightell, Eleanor was born August 13, 1926 at New Philadelphia, Ohio.

Eleanor graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1944 and then attended Kent State University Tuscarawas Campus.

She was retired as an LPN and was employed in the offices of Dr. Doughten and Dr. Teague for 40 years.  Eleanor was an active member of the LPN Association, was a founding organizer of the Tuscarawas County Medical Assistance organization and volunteered for the Aultman Blood Bank.

Eleanor was a member and Past President of the New Philadelphia Lady Elks #510 Social Club, a member of the Order of Eastern Star #222 and a member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem.  She had a variety of hobbies and especially enjoyed bowling, playing cards, baking Christmas cookies, making Buckeyes and Pecan Tassies for friends and collecting antiques.  She was also known as a wonderful seamstress.

She is survived by two daughters, Lynn Cerveni and Cindy (Bob) Mathias both of New Philadelphia; a granddaughter, Krista Cerveni and several nieces and nephews.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert D. Watson; a grandson, Daniel Lee Mathias; a son-in-law, George Cerveni III and a brother, Wayne Lightell.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 9, 2016 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia with Eastern Star services being held at 7:45p.m.  A funeral service celebrating Eleanor’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. James H. Humphrey officiating.  Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.  Following the service a luncheon will be held in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.
