Eleanor Josephine Vesco, age 77, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, April 4, 2016 in her residence following a brief illness.
A daughter of the late Serafino and Elvigia (Columbo) Vesco, Eleanor was born at Wainwright on August 7, 1938.
She was a graduate of St. Mary’s School at Dennison and a member of the former St. Theresa’s Church at Wainwright and a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia. Eleanor was an active member of the church Altar Society, Parish Council, and LCBA. She also served on the Italian American Festival Foundation, and enjoyed gatherings with others St. Mary’s Alumni and being involved with fundraising for Community Hospice.
Professionally, Eleanor worked for the former Goshen Dairy Company as their Office Manager for 20 years and most recently had retired from the Best Western at Uhrichsville after 15 years as the hotel manager.
Those who knew her best, fondly remember her love for bowling, traveling, cooking, and trying new recipes. She also enjoyed crocheting and knitting, often giving away many of her hand crafted pieces as gifts to others.
She is survived by her brother, Carl “Vic” (Shirley) Vesco of Whitehall; her nieces and nephews, Brady Churches and Amber (Steven) Figanter all of Columbus, Connie Lawver of Dover and John Vesco of Chicago; her best friend, RaeAnn Dabel of New Philadelphia as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews, their families and many cousins.
In addition to her parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, John and Florence Vesco and a niece, Elaine Link.
The family will greet guests on Thursday, April 7, from 6-8 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where a Christian Wake Service will begin at 6PM. An addition visitation will take place in the funeral home on Friday, April 8 from 12-12:45 PM. Father Jeff Coning will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday at 1 PM in the Sacred Heart Church. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia. All are invited to share in a meal and fellowship in St. Ambrose Hall, adjacent to the church following services.
Instead of floral tributes, the family requests memorial contributions be directed to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Avenue, SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
