Eileen M. Osgood, 85, of New Philadelphia, Monday evening in Morning View Care Center following a lengthy illness. Born January 23, 1918 in New Philadelphia, she was the oldest of three daughters born to the late Hershel Herbert McMerrell and Frances May Price McMerrell. A graduate of New Philadelphia High School, Mrs. Osgood was a member of the First Church of the Brethren. As a homemaker she enjoyed reading and caring for her gardens, especially her rosebushes. She was especially fond of her friend Judy Metz and was very thankful for Judy’s help and support over the years. On August 3, 1941 she married Lester E. Osgood, who after 55 years of marriage, preceded her in death on October 23, 1996. Survivors include a sister, Doris J. West, of New Philadelphia, nieces Linda Martin and Diana (Charles) Strader all of Malvern, and Darla West of Dover; and a nephew Guy (Bev) Berndt of Canton. In addition to her parents and husband, a sister, Genevie Berndt, precedes her in death. Friends may call Thursday from 2 to 5 PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home. Pastor Max Canfield will officiate Mrs. Osgood’s funeral service Friday at 11 AM in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow at Dover Burial Park. Following interment, a meal will be served in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the Funeral Home.
