Edwina “Winnie” F. Weisgarber, age 80, of New Philadelphia died Saturday, November 24, 2007, at Canton. Born at Newark, Ohio, on September 28, 1927, Winnie was the daughter of the late Edgar and Emily Moody Baker.In 1951, Winnie married William Weisgarber and in 1962, the couple relocated to New Philadelphia when they purchased the Tuscarawas Insurance agency from the late John Marlowe. Mr. Weisgarber precedes Winnie in death. Although she spent the majority of her life as a devoted homemaker, Winnie obtained a degree in Physical Therapy from The Ohio State University and Duke University. A longtime member of the First United Church of Christ at New Philadelphia, Winnie spent her time enjoying life and never let her Parkinson’s disease get in her way. She was insistent upon living independently her entire life. She truly took pleasure in sewing, quilting, and playing bridge and would never turn down the chance to attend a good auction.Mrs. Weisgarber will be missed by her family which includes two daughters and a son, Penny and husband Dave Simon of Holliston, Massachusetts, Sarah and husband Dr. William Leffler of Canton, Ohio and Bill and wife Jody Weisgarber of New Philadelphia. In addition to her children, Winnie leaves a legacy through her grandchildren, the Reverend Andrew and Kathleen Simon, Emily Simon, Sarah Simon, Mark and Elizabeth Leffler Reichley, William W. Leffler, Ryan and Katy Weisgarber Wells, Eric Weisgarber, Molly Weisgarber, and Sam Weisgarber.A service celebrating Winnie’s life will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2007 at 2:00 PM in the First United Church of Christ at New Philadelphia. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Those unable to attend are invited to share memories and condolences with the family by visiting the funeral home’s website. In keeping with Winnie’s wishes there are no calling hours, and cremation has been conducted by the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.
