Edward Smith

Edward Matthew Smith, 82 of New Philadelphia, died Friday, March 18, 2022, in Community Hospice Truman House after a period of declining health.

A son of the late Matthew Joseph and Mary (Janke) Smith, Edward was born in Dover, Ohio, on May 31, 1939.

Eddie honorably served his county in the US Navy.  After his years in the Navy, he returned to New Philadelphia and worked as a roofer for over 38 years.

On July 19, 1968, Eddie married Neva (Whitman), who survives him.  Along with his wife, he is survived by his children, Amy Septer of New Philadelphia, Todd Smith of New Philadelphia, Tracey Smith of Elyria, and Buster Smith of Akron; his step children, Lorri Beach of Troy, Illinois, and James Whitman of Port Washington; grandchildren, Tyler Gilmore, Courtney Gilmore, Shay Whitman, and Yvonne Whitman; he is also survived by his siblings Robert (Wynne) Smith, Kathy (Kay) Johnston, and Peg Hicks.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents.

Private family inurnment will take place at a later time at Schoenbrunn Meadow Cemetery in New Philadelphia.
