Edward Frederick Gasser

August 3, 1928 — February 26, 2003

Edward Frederick Gasser, 74, of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, February 26, 2003 in Union Hospital. Born August 3, 1928 in Strasburg to Adolph and Jennie Peters Gasser, he excelled in school, graduating as the Valedictorian of Strasburg High School in 1946. Following high school, Mr. Gasser served in the United States Army from 1946 to 1948, where he earned the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal for his service in Japan. After an honorable discharge, he graduated from the Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland, and earned certification from the State of Ohio as a Registered Surveyor and a Professional Engineer. Mr. Gasser was affiliated with Bair Goodie & Associates and also was elected three times to serve as Tuscarawas County Engineer from 1968 to 1980. Edward had a green thumb, and always kept a flower and vegetable garden. An avid card player, his home was always a place where family and friends could come and join in a game of Euchre or Jass. In later years, he really enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. On August 24, 1957, he married the former Lillian Sikora who preceded him in death on January 18, 1999. Together they raised a family that includes a daughter Laura M. (Fred) Randolph of Magnolia; two sons, John E. (Wendy) Gasser of Clinton, O, and Steven L. (Danielle) Gasser of New Philadelphia. He will be sadly missed by ten grandchildren; Amanda, Kaylyn, Megan, Rachel, Jordan, Sophie and Cade Gasser, and Nathan, Tyler, and Alex Randolph, as well as two sisters; Mary Jane (Wayne) Pickett of Stow and Shirley (James) Kuecher of Strasburg. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Gasser was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Von Gasser, in 1993. Friends may call Friday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home. A funeral service honoring Mr. Gasser’s life will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, March 1, 2003 in the funeral home’s chapel with Msgr. George J. Schlegel officiating. The Dover VFW will conduct military graveside services prior to interment at Calvary Cemetery, New Philadelphia. Following the committal service, a meal will be served for family and friends in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Sacred Heart School, 320 Fair Ave NE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
