Edward F. Ross, 78, of New Philadelphia, died suddenly on Friday, April 20, 2007 in Union Hospital at Dover.A son of the late George and Hattie (George) Ross, Ed was born September 26, 1928 at Uhrichsville, Ohio.Ed was a 1946 graduate of Uhrichsville High School. Following graduation, he enlisted with the United States Army and served in Japan at the end of World War II. After returning home from the war, he continued his formal education at Case Western Reserve University where he graduated with a chemical engineering degree in 1952.On June 22, 1951 in the First Christian Church at Uhrichsville, Ed married the former Dorothy Schmidt and together they raised three children, Mark, Deborah, and David.Following his graduation from college, Ed worked for Goodyear in Akron. He then retired in 1985 as a chemical engineer for Phillips Petroleum, what is currently known as ConocoPhillips.He was a member of the First Christian Church at New Philadelphia where he was a member of the Master Builders Sunday School Class. Ed was also a life member of the New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post 1445.Ed was an avid golfer and following retirement, he spent many days on Five Waters Golf Course playing with the Five Waters Senior Group. He also enjoyed Bowling at Kinser Lanes during his younger years. Ed loved the challenge from a good crossword puzzle as well.He will be dearly missed by his family which includes his loving wife, Dorothy “Dot” Ross; his children, Mark (Amy) Ross of Fort Collins, Colorado, Deborah (Tom) Gretsinger of Chattanooga, Oklahoma and David Ross of Akron, Ohio and his companion, Bonnie Keator; five grandchildren, Jesse, Adam, Laura and Lacey Gretsinger and Phillip Ross and one brother, David (Ruth) Ross of Strongsville, Ohio.Ed was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.Family and friends may call in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service celebrating Ed’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the First Christian Church at New Philadelphia with Pastor Jim Borton officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery at Uhrichsville where the New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post 1445 will perform military honors. Following the committal service, a memorial reception will be held in the fellowship hall in the First Christian Church at New Philadelphia.Memorial contributions may be made in Ed’s honor to the First Christian Church Building Fund, P.O.
