Edward Eugene Rector

Edward Eugene Rector, age 68, of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, May 24, 2012, in Union Hospital at Dover, two days before celebrating his 69th birthday.

Born at New Philadelphia on May 26, 1943, Ed is a son of the late William and Julia (Smart) Rector. He attended New Philadelphia Schools and worked for Massillon Container at Navarre. At a young age, Ed suffered a back injury which would no longer allow him to work and retired in 1977 following seven years of service with the company.

On January 19, 1963, he married the former Frances “Fran” L. Troyer, and together reared a family of three children.

Ed enjoyed singing, playing the guitar, fishing, playing cards and going to Bingo.

In addition to his wife of 49 years, Ed is survived by a son, Dale Rector and his companion, Melissa LeGlise of New Philadelphia; two daughters, Sharon (husband, Scott) Hanni of Midvale and Elaine (husband, David) Morgan of Dalton, Georgia; and six grandchildren, Clara, John, Lindsey, Jason, Brandy, and Brian.

Three brothers, Dave (Penny) Rector of Florida, Bob (Kathy) Rector of Dover, and Richard (Kathy) Rector of Georgia; five sisters, Norma (Dan) Heter and Shirley Billiter all of New Philadelphia and Dorothy (Bill) Snook, Viola Rector and Beverly Bowersock all of Florida as well as numerous nieces and nephews complete the family.

In addition to his parents, Ed is preceded in death by a grandson, Travis; a brother, Larry Rector; and two sisters, Mary Weber and Laura Ditto.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 27, 2012 from 1:00 – 2:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where Pastor Brian Flood will lead a funeral service in the funeral home’s chapel on Sunday at 2:00 PM. Following services, cremation will be conducted by Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory at Dover with private inurnment taking place at a later date.
