Edward Charles Kaufman, 78, of New Philadelphia died Saturday, September 3, 2016 in Union Hospital at Dover following a nearly year-long illness.
Born at New Philadelphia on May 6, 1938, Ed was a son of the late Herbert and Mary (Calai) Kaufman.
He was a 1956 graduate of St. Joseph’s Catholic School at Dover and entered into the United States Air Force where he served his country as a Fuel Supply Specialist from 1958-1962.
Ed was employed by Gradall at New Philadelphia for more than four decades and served the company in a supervisory role as a foreman. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia and greatly enjoyed supporting his family in their activities and sporting events. He loved working on home improvement and landscaping projects and vacationing, especially spending time in California and Florida as well as traveling to Hawaii and Guam.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years the former Hallie “Maxine” Teischinger, whom he married on February 8, 1969; six children, Randall (Kelly) Kaufman of California, Renee (John) Branch, Lisa Kaufman, Melissa Kaufman, Paula Kaufman all of New Philadelphia and Edward (Jennifer) Kaufman, Jr of North Carolina; and his siblings, Victoria (Dan) Cade, Herbert “Bud” (Lois) Kaufman all of Columbus, and Jerry (Debbie) Kaufman of Coshocton. Completing the family are 16 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by a son, Robert Kaufman; a daughter, Rhea Kaufman; a sister, Katherine Kaufman; and a granddaughter, Tara Kaufman.
The family will greet guests during a memorial visitation on Thursday, September, 8, 2016 from 4-7 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A memorial Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Jeff Coning in Sacred Heart Church on Friday, September 9, 2016 at 10:30 AM. Immediately following Mass, a reception will be held in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the New Philadelphia Funeral Home.
Ed was a passionate donor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The family requests memorial contributions to be directed to 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 in his name.
