Edna Denslow Gintz, age 94, formerly of New Philadelphia, died Monday, January 18, 2010, in Union Hospital at Dover. For the past three years she had been a resident of Park Village Assisted Living Community at Dover.A daughter of the late Claud M. and Grace (Newton) Denslow, Edna was born near Edmore, Michigan on September 8, 1915. She attended the former Bresel School located on Dover Township Route 3 and on April 2, 1939, following a period of courtship, would marry William P. Gintz, who would precede her in death, on July 27, 1982, following 43 years of marriage.As a young woman, Edna would work for the former Mary Ann Bakery at Dover and would later go on to serve for twenty years as the Treasurer for the former Goshen Dairy, where her primary responsibility was collecting funds from the drivers coming off of the milk delivery routes.Edna was a longtime member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia and would also hold memberships in the AARP-Buckeye Chapter, and serve as chaplain for the Fairfield and Pomona Granges.While Edna never had children of her own, she enjoyed the time spent with her numerous nieces and nephews during their visits. Additionally, Edna enjoyed reading and listening to the Cleveland Indians.Edna leaves behind two sisters, Prudence Kunse of Tarpon Springs, Florida and Betty Arlene Getchey of Long Beach, California; a cousin, Nancy Quillen of New Philadelphia; a niece, Darlene (Bill) Dean of Bolivar; and a nephew, Ron (Barb) Kunse of Michigan.Numerous other nieces and nephews complete the family.In addition to her parents and husband, Edna was preceded in death by four sisters, Lula Brown, Ester Fires, Ruby Newland, and Katie Shuman and two brothers, Jesse Denslow and Williard Denslow. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 21, 2010, one hour prior to services, from 10:00 â?? 11:00 AM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A Grange Service will commence at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 21, 2010, in the funeral home’s chapel. Immediately following, Reverend Kelly Brown and Pastor Jim Taggart will lead a service celebrating Edna’s life. Burial alongside her husband will follow in the East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia.Following services, the family would like to invite guests to join them in the Fellowship Hall of Otterbein United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia, where a meal will be shared.The family requests that memorial contributions in Edna’ name be directed to Otterbein United Methodist Church, 156 Beaver Avenue NE, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
