Edith D. Sarchet, 93, of Dover and formerly of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, June 16, 2010 in New Dawn Retirement Community at Dover following a period of declining health.A daughter of the late August and Barbara (Leita) Mattevi, Edith was born November 20, 1916 at Wainwright, Ohio.On August 23, 1940, Edith married Charles C. Sarchet and together they raised two daughters, Linda and Joyal. The couple shared 59 years of marriage prior to Charles’ passing on December 22, 1999.She was a member of the First United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia where she was once active with the United Methodist Women and the Anderson Sunday School Class.Edith was a homemaker and took great joy in caring for her family. Over the years she enjoyed crocheting and embroidering and will be remembered for her homemade pies and cookies.She will also be remembered as a very unselfish person who was always willing to lend a hand to family and friends when in need.Most of all, Edith cherished her grandchildren and took great pride in attending their sporting events and other activities.She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Gene) Morrison of Dover and Joyal (John) Pittman of New Philadelphia; her grandchildren, Karen (Dave) Schlosser and Thomas (Kathy) Morrison both of Dover, John “Chip” (Diana) Pittman of Granby, Colorado and Jason Pittman of Riverside, California; her great grandchildren, Tiffany (Brett) Colvin, Nathan Schlosser, Kimberly Morrison and August “Gus”, Magnus and Charles Pittman; a great great grandson, Tyler Colvin; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Buehler of Stone Creek and nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents and husband, Edith was preceded in death by a great grandson, John C. Pittman; three sisters, Alma Butler, Erma Contini and Rose Buehler and a brother, August Mattevi.The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 19, 2010 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Edith’s life will follow at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Hugh Berry officiating. Burial will follow in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia. Following the committal service, a memorial reception will be held in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.Contributions may be made in Edith’s memory to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West Third Street, Dover, OH 44622.
