Edgar J. Richardson, 84, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, November 16, 2016 in the care of Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia.

A son of the late George and Alice (Wilson) Richardson, Edgar was born September 11, 1932 at Dover, Ohio.

Edgar attended Dover High School and later in life achieved his G.E.D. He was a veteran of the Korean War Conflict, serving as a member of the United States Army. He retired from 33 years as a bricklayer of the former Gundy Construction Company and was a member of the Local #6 Bricklayers Union for 56 years. As a bricklayer, he met his best friend, the late Marvin “Mose” Wertman.

Edgar was an avid Cleveland Indians fan and loved watching their games. His biggest joy in life was his family and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and wife of 59 years, Carol Richardson (Ashbaugh).

In addition to his wife he is survived by his two daughters, Debra (Rick) Cummings and Beth Ann (William) Linerode; a granddaughter, Rachel Cummings and grandson, Joshua Linerode as well as a sister, Mary Jane Burris.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his two siblings, Virginia France and George Richardson.

In keeping with the family’s wishes there will be no public calling hours. A graveside service will be held Friday, November 18, 2016 at 1:30 pm in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia with Pastor Jason Humble officiating and military honors being rendered.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions in Edgar’s memory be made to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Avenue, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
