Edgar Daniel Border, 91, of New Philadelphia, died Sunday, July 25, 2010 in Union Hospital at Dover following a period of declining health.A son of the late Chester Border and the late Mina (Shilling) Border Ripple, Edgar was born November 15, 1918 at Dover, Ohio.Edgar graduated from Strasburg High School in 1938. Three years later, he enlisted with the United States Army and served during World War II until receiving and honorable discharge on November 5, 1945.He retired from the former I.F. Manufacturing and was a member of Community of Christ Church at New Philadelphia. During his younger years, Edgar enjoyed riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles.Surviving are his daughter, Janet (Charles) Cartwright of Coshocton; two grandsons, Christopher and Craig Cartwright and a half sister, Alberta Havinga of Florida.Edgar was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Edith M. (Rees) Border; a sister; a brother, a half sister and four half brothers.Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Edgar’s life will follow in the funeral home at 11 a.m. with Jim Watson officiating. Burial will follow in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia.The family requests in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in Edgar’s memory to Community of Christ Church, 515 Church Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
