Eddy D. Bennington

Eddy D. “Ed” Bennington, 62, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, May 4, 2009 in Mercy Medical Center at Canton following a sudden illness.A son of the late Ernest and Agnes (Bowe) Bennington, Ed was born September 8, 1946 at Dover, Ohio.Ed was 1965 graduate of Gnadenhutten High School and on November 25, 1972, he married the former Linda Thrasher. The couple reared three children, Laurence, Melinda and Abigail.He was a veteran of the United States Army. Ed served as a mechanic in Vietnam where he repaired Chinook helicopters.He was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed camping and fishing. He also dedicated much of his time serving as a Boy Scout Leader.Ed enjoyed sports and was an avid Michigan Football and Cleveland Indians Fan. Most of all, he loved his family and was sure not to miss any of the children’s band or winterguard events. He also found great joy in playing with his grandchildren.He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Bennington; his children, Laurence “Larry” (Alana) Bennington, Melinda (Scott) Knisely and Abigail “Abby” Bennington all of New Philadelphia; four grandchildren, Annalie Sandoval, Trinity Bennington and Alexander “Alex” and Allison “Allie” Knisley; one brother, William Bennington of Dover and several nieces, nephews and cousins.Ed was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Lillian Robinson and a brother, Ernest “Bud” Bennington.Family and friends may call on Friday, May 8, 2009 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Ed’s life will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at 10 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel with Pastor Sue Koenig officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover. Following the committal service, a memorial reception will be held in the fellowship hall of Schoenbrunn Moravian Church.Contributions may be made in Eddy’s memory to the American Heart Association, Ohio Valley Affiliate, P.O.
