Eddie Freetage, 71, Dover, died in Union Hospital on Saturday, September 6, 2003, surrounded by family. Born June 24, l932, in West Lafayette, OH, Eddie was the son of the late John and Mary (Smith) Freetage, and was a 1952 graduate of the former West Lafayette High School. In 1952, he served for the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He achieved the rank of sergeant before his honorable discharge in l953.Later, he met Delores Kutcher, and they married October 24, l959. Several years later, they settled in Dover. He worked 16 years for Marlite Industries, and retired from Greer Steel after 20-plus years of employment.A family man in every sense of the word, Eddie lived for and loved his family. He spent his free time gardening, traveling, or entertaining family and friends. He enjoyed singing and was skilled on both the accordion and the piano, on which he was self-taught. He was an active member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Dover.Eddie will be missed by his wife, Delores; daughter, Denise (Michael) Diaz of Buda, TX; son, Darren W. Freetage of Akron; granddaughter, Amber Nicole Diaz also of Buda, TX; sisters, Mary Dorothy Wigfield, Helen Bradford, and twin sister, Betty (Vic) Everhart all of West Lafayette.In addition to his parents, five brothers preceded him in death.Services for Eddie will be Wednesday, September 10, 2003 at 1:30 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel with Pastor Steven J. Daniels officiating. Burial will follow at Dover Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5 Â? 8 pm.
